Exiting Windows the Cool and Quick Way
Normally it takes a hell lot of time just Shutting down Windows, you have to move your
mouse to the Start Button, click on it, move it again over Shut Down, click, then move it
over the necessary option and click, then move the cursor over the OK button and once
again (you guessed it) click.This whole process can be shortened by creating shortcuts on
the Desktop which will shut down Windows at the click of a button. Start by creating a
new shortcut( right click and select New> Shortcut). Then in the command line box, type
(without the quotes.)
'C:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindowsexec'
This Shortcut on clicking will restart Windows immediately without any Warning. To
create a Shortcut to Restarting Windows, type the following in the Command Line box:
'c:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows'
This Shortcut on clicking will shut down Windows immediately without any Warning.

Take Over the Screen Saver
To activate and deactivate the screen saver whenever you want, goto the following
registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\ScreenSavers
Now add a new string value and name it Mouse Corners. Edit this new value to -Y-N.
Press F5 to refresh the registry. Voila! Now you can activate your screensaver by simply
placing the mouse cursor at the top right corner of the screen and if you take the mouse to
the bottom left corner of the screen, the screensaver will deactivate.
Pop a banner each time Windows Boots
To pop a banner which can contain any message you want to display just before a user is
going to log on, go to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\WinLogon
Now create a new string Value in the right pane named LegalNoticeCaption and enter the
value that you want to see in the Menu Bar. Now create yet another new string value and
name it: LegalNoticeText. Modify it and insert the message you want to display each
time Windows boots. This can be effectively used to display the company's private policy
each time the user logs on to his NT box. It's .reg file would be:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Winlogon]
"LegalNoticeCaption"="Caption here."

Delete the Tips of the Day to save 5KB
Windows 95 had these tips of the day which appeared on a system running a newly
installed Windows OS. These tips of the day are stored in the Windows Registry and
consume 5K of space. For those of you who are really concerned about how much free
space your hard disk has, I have the perfect trick.
To save 5K go to the following key in Regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Explorer\Tips
Now simply delete these tricks by selecting and pressing the DEL key.
Change the Default Locations
To change the default drive or path where Windows will look for it's installation files, go
to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Setup\SourcePath
Now you can edit as you wish.
Secure your Desktop Icons and Settings
You can save your desktop settings and secure it from your nerdy friend by playing with
the registry. Simply launch the Registry Editor go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre
ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
In the right pane create a new DWORD Value named NoSaveSettings and modify it's
value to 1. Refresh and restart for the settings to get saved.

1. Open a blank Notepad file
2. Write .LOG as the first line of the file, followed by a enter. Save the file and close it.
3. Double-click the file to open it and notice that Notepad appends the current date and time to the end of the file and places the cursor on the line after.
4. Type your notes and then save and close the file.
After that open the file and see the changes.
by this trick u can also use ur notebook as a personal diary.
~!~!~!~ Trick#2 ~!~!~!~
1.open notepad
2. type "bush hid the facts"
3. save it and close it...
4 then open it again........n see the changes...............
~!~!~!~ Trick#3 ~!~!~!~
Do you know the number of the flight that was used to attack the world Trade Centre????
The flight number was Q33N.
Now, open your Notepad, type the number of the flight (i.e. Q33N).
Now click on format>font, increase the font size upto 72, and change the font style to 'wingdings'. Now see the ammmaaazzzing thing.
~!~!~!~ Trick#4 ~!~!~!~
Over at WinCustomize, someone thought they'd found an Easter Egg in the Windows Notepad application. If you:
1. Open Notepad
2. Type the text "this app can break" (without quotes)
3. Save the file
4. Re-open the file in Notepad
Notepad displays seemingly-random Chinese characters, or boxes if your default Notepad font doesn't support those characters.
It's not an Easter egg (even though it seems like a funny one), and as it turns out, Notepad writes the file correctly. It's only when Notepad reads the file back in that it seems to lose its mind.

google as proxy
How to use Google as proxy
Many jobs and schools (countries?) block access to certain sites. However, it is very difficult for anybody to block access to google. By using google with either of these two methods, you can gain access to blocked sites very easily.
Blocked web site, huh? Need a proxy?
I am not a big fan of chasing free, open proxies all over the place. I use google instead. Here I describe what I believe is an uncommon way for bypassing blocked sites using google.
1:
The first and most common way of using google to bypass blocked sites is just to search for the site and then clicked the "cached" link that appears on google. Easy, simple, and frequently works for static information.
2:
Passing the site through google translator works well as well. Here's the URL to use:
Code:
http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.blockedsite.com
(where blockedsite.com is the site that you wish to visit)
This translates the site from english to english and works because the ip address will appear as google instead of you. Here's a link to tech-recipes passed through the translator as an example. You can actually do this with any langpair. Change en|en in the URL above to spanish by using es|es and it still works.
3:. Google mobile will "convert as you go" very similiar to the translation method above.
Just search for your site with google mobile and click on the link it provides. Here's is tech-recipes brought up through google mobile search. Once again, this will allow you to bypass any blocks because the IP request comes from google not for you.
Like the translation method above, google will continue to "proxy" as you continue to visit links through the site.
And ya it is also useful to retrive some information from net which is currently not available.

You need to know the object's class ID (CLSID), which uniquely identifies each system
object. The following table lists the CLSIDs for common desktop objects.
CLSIDs for desktop objects
Desktop object CLSID
My Computer {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
Recycle Bin {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
Microsoft Outlook {00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Internet Explorer {FBF23B42-E3F0-101B-8488-00AA003E56F8}
The Internet {3DC7A020-0ACD-11CF-A9BB-00AA004AE837}
My Network Places {208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D}

Dial-Up Networking {992CFFA0-F557-101A-88EC-00DD010CCC48}
Run the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID, a key that lets you change
characteristics of system objects, and highlight the CLSID whose name or balloon text you
want to change. For example, to change My Computer, highlight the subkey
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}. Keep
in mind that HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID has many CLSIDs listed under it, so it might
take you a while to find the proper subkey.
Once you find the right subkey, if you want to edit the name of the object, open the Default
value and type in the text that you want to appear underneath the object. If you want to edit
the balloon text for the object, open the InfoTip value and type in the text that you want to
appear as balloon text. Once you're done, exit the Registry and reboot.

Hide Your Files In A JPEG
Well, did you know you could hide your files in a JPEG file? For this, you will only need to download WinRAR. You just need to have a little knowledge about Command Prompt and have WinRAR installed.
Ok, lets begin…
1. Gather all the files that you wish to hide in a folder anywhere in your PC (make it in C:\hidden - RECOMMENDED).
2. Now, add those files in a RAR archive (e.g. secret.rar). This file should also be in the same directory (C:\hidden).
3. Now, look for a simple JPEG picture file (e.g. logo.jpg). Copy/Paste that file also in C:\hidden.
4. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your working directory C:\hidden.
5. Now type: “COPY /b logo.jpg + secret.rar output.jpg” (without quotes) - Now, logo.jpg is the picture you want to show, secret.rar is the file to be hidden, and output.jpg is the file which contains both. :D
6. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C:\hidden. Open it (double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden archive .

Microsoft's Crazy Facts
MAGIC #1
Nobody can create a FOLDER anywhere on the computer which can be named as "CON".
This is something pretty cool...and unbelievable. ..
At Microsoft the whole Team, couldn't answer why this happened!
TRY IT NOW, IT WILL NOT CREATE "CON" FOLDER
MAGIC #2
This is something pretty cool and neat...and unbelievable. ..
At Microsoft the whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn't answer why this happened!
Try it out yourself...

And then press ENTER
MAGIC #3
For those of you using Windows, do the following:
1. Open an empty notepad file
2. Type "Bush hid the facts" (without the quotes)
3. Save it as whatever you want.
4. Close it, and re-open it.
Is it just a really weird bug?
You can try the same thing above with another sentence "this app can break"
Explanation for Magic #1:
In windows the folder name and the special system variables share the same interface, so when you create a folder with a system variable name it will consider that folder already exist!!
These special system variables are available irrespective of path
You cannot create a folder with these names also:
CON, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3,COM1 to COM9 and LPT1 to LPT9....
CON means console, COM1 means serial port 1, LPT1 means parallel port 1

'CON' Folder
Myth-"Not being able to name a file or folder 'CON' is a bug or a secret"
Reality-"Several special file names are reserved by the system and cannot be used for files or folders: CON, AUX, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, PRN, NUL. This goes back to DOS 1.0 which didn't support subdirectories, lowercase, or filenames longer than 8.3. 'CON' is a reserved word from the old DOS days, simply meaning 'console'. If you wanted to create a new text file in DOS you could type 'copy con newfile.txt' meaning copy from the console to newfile.txt. This would let you type some lines and when you ended the file you would have a file called newfile.txt containing whatever you wrote in the console. Since they are still relied on with things like batch files (redirect to >NUL) they are still reserved today."
Notes-This has nothing to do with the patched "DOS Device in Path Name" Vulnerability of Windows 95/98.

*********Notepad Phrases*********
Myth-"There are Secret phrases like "bush hid the facts" you can type into Notepad"
Reality-"Notepad makes a best guess of which encoding to use when confronted with certain short strings of characters that lack special prefixes. The encodings that do not have special prefixes and which are still supported by Notepad are the traditional ANSI encoding (i.e., "plain ASCII") and the Unicode (little-endian) encoding with no BOM. When faced with a file that lacks a special prefix, Notepad is forced to guess which of those two encodings the file actually uses. The function that does this work is Is Text Unicode, which studies a chunk of bytes and does some statistical analysis to come up with a guess. Sometimes it guesses wrong and displays random characters after you save and open the file. Any combination of characters in the same order 4-3-3-5 will cause the same problem: "Bill lie and cheat" "this app can break", "hhhh hhh hhh hhhhh", "this isa bug dummy" ec

Secure Ur Windows Fully
You can provide added level of security to your WINDOWS XP System. This is called securing your Windows XP accounts database. You can store all information related to your accounts in a encrypted form on a floppy disk. What this would do is that if You do not have access to your floppy disk, You can not access the system. I am not sure You realized what I just said ! Even if You know your userid/password, You will not be able to access the system unless and until You have this startup disk.
Go to START-RUN and type syskey. You will see a window come up. Click on Upgrade command button. You would see another window popping up which will give You the option of storing the encrypted accounts database either locally(Generaaly this is better,no floppy is needed for this) or on your floppy disk. Choose floppy disk and click OK and let the process complete. You are done.
Next time You reboot the computer and get to the logon prompt, make sure that You have the floppy disk available in A: drive else You can not log on.
Be sure once command given and password applied u can only blank ur password but dont remove the window asking password and this password is unbreakable.
Unlocking WinXP's setupp.ini
============================
WinXP's setupp.ini controls how the CD acts. IE is it an OEM version or retail? First, find your setupp.ini file in the i386 directory on your WinXP CD. Open it up, it'll look something like this:
ExtraData=707A667567736F696F697911AE7E05
Pid=55034000
The Pid value is what we're interested in. What's there now looks like a standard default. There are special numbers that determine if it's a retail, oem, or volume license edition. First, we break down that number into two parts. The first five digits determines how the CD will behave, ie is it a retail cd that lets you clean install or upgrade, or an oem cd that only lets you perform a clean install? The last three digits determines what CD key it will accept. You are able to mix and match these values. For example you could make a WinXP cd that acted like a retail cd, yet accepted OEM keys.
Now, for the actual values. Remember the first and last values are interchangable, but usually you'd keep them as a pair:
Retail = 51882 335
Volume License = 51883 270
OEM = 82503 OEM
So if you wanted a retail CD that took retail keys, the last line of your setupp.ini file would read:
Pid=51882335
And if you wanted a retail CD that took OEM keys, you'd use:
Pid=51882OEM

Optimize Broadband & Dsl Connections
These settings allow you to boost the speed of your broadband Internet connection when using a Cable Modem or DSL Router with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Open your registry and find the key below.
Create the following DWORD values, as most of these values will not already exist you will need to create them by clicking on 'Edit -> New -> DWORD Value' and then set the value as shown below.
DefaultTTL = "80" hex (or 128 decimal)
Specifies the default time to live (TTL) for TCP/IP packets. The default is 32.
EnablePMTUBHDetect = "0"
Specifies whether the stack will attempt to detect Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) routers that do not send back ICMP fragmentation-needed messages. The default is 0.
EnablePMTUDiscovery = "1"
Specifies whether the TCP/IP stack will attempt to perform path MTU discovery as specified in RFC 1191. The default is 1.
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = "7FFF" hex (or 32767 decimal)
Specifies the system maximum receive window size advertised by the TCP/IP stack.
TcpMaxDupAcks = "2"
Determines the number of duplicate ACKs that must be received for the same sequence number of sent data before "fast retransmit" is triggered.
SackOpts = "1"
Enables support for selective acknowledgements as documented by Request for Comment (RFC) 2018. Default is 0.
Tcp1323Opts = "1"
Controls RFC 1323 time stamps and window scaling options. Possible values are: "0" = disable RFC 1323 options, "1" = window scale enabled only, "2" = time stamps enabled only and "3" = both options enabled.
TcpWindowSize = "7FFF" hex (or 32767 decimal)
Specifies the receive window size advertised by the TCP/IP stack. If you have a latent network you can try increasing the value to 93440, 186880, or 372300.
Exit your registry and restart Windows for the changes to take effect

Running Scandisk
As you save, erase, and move files sometimes things do not go just right. This is not caused by anything you are doing wrong. A PC is a very complex, fast machine and despite the best efforts of all the designers, engineers and programmers who've toiled to make it flawless, sometimes programs collide and mess up each others files.
This unwanted interaction can result in invalid files, files with lost file fragments, and cross linked files. You don't always know right away when this happens. This is why you should run the Scandisk utility from time to time.
For Windows 9x and ME
1) Click the Start button.
2) Select Programs, Accessories, then System Tools. Click Scandisk.
3) Select and click the drive you want to scan, and then choose either the Standard or the Thorough test.
4) Click Start.
Scandisk runs in two modes
1. The Standard test checks the files and folders on the selected drive for errors.
2. The Thorough test performs the Standard test and then checks the entire surface of your hard drive for physical damage. You can even specify to scan areas of your disk containing only data files, or just the areas with system files, or both. This process takes a long time. Unless the Standard test fails you shouldn't need to run this test.
For Windows XP and 2000
In XP and 2000, the utility is called 'Error Checking' and doesn't offer the full physical surface check.
1) From 'Start' double click 'My Computer'.
2) Right-click the drive you want.
3) Click on 'Properties', then 'Tools'.
4) Under 'Error Checking' click 'Check Now' and then Start.
5) A small scandisk window appears and the process begins.
